With your permission, your story can also be published on our website. Sharing real stories about real people helps makes a human connection with supporters of the Foundation.
Once submitted, you will receive a link to your child's Personal Page. All information submitted will be processed within two weeks of being received.
International SCN2A Awareness Day

Why February 24th?
The SCN2A gene is located on the long (q) arm of chromosome 2 at position 24.3. The letters and number in 'SCN2A' mean that the gene is a sodium channel, voltage gated, type II alpha subunit. Sodium channels are proteins in cells that allow sodium to pass to the inside. Sodium is one of several ion channels, along with Potassium (K) and Calcium (C). Sodium ion channels play a key role in a cell's ability to generate and transmit electrical signals. When there is a deletion or mutation of this gene it has been identified to cause autism, epilepsy and other neurological issues like movement disorders, dystonia and dsyautonomia to name just a few.
International SCN2A Awareness Day is observed around the world with the knowledge that raising awareness of this little- known disorder can dramatically and positively impact the lives of ALL those affected by SCN2A-related disorders.
